Volleyball video analysis: from recording to the right rally

Watching an entire match again takes time. A clear analysis question and timestamped actions help you find the relevant rallies. Prepare a review in which every scene has a purpose.

1. Prepare a usable recording

Before the match, check that the relevant court stays in view and that actions are easy to recognise. A steady camera position makes later review easier. Check storage and power, and inspect a short test recording. Only use footage that you are allowed to use for this purpose and share with the intended people. Software cannot reliably explain an action that the camera does not show clearly.

2. Connect the match and its video

Assign the recording to the correct match and check the teams, sets and score. If you already have scouting data, connect the actions with video times. Check an early scene and a later one to see whether alignment stays correct across the recording. If a scene is offset, correct the timing before rating many more actions.

3. Treat AI suggestions as a draft

CourtOS AI Scout helps detect match actions and prepares a raw scout. This is a first draft rather than an unchecked final statistic. Set up the court and teams, then review the detected actions. Missing or incorrectly assigned actions can be edited afterwards. Review is part of the process; difficult footage cannot support certainty about actions that are not visible.

4. Move from a number to its action

Start with a specific question about serve placement or a reception situation. Filter the matching actions by player, rotation or situation. Compare the figure with the corresponding footage. When actions and video are aligned, CourtOS lets you move from the analysis to the relevant scenes. Include successful actions too: they show which behaviour you want to reinforce in practice.

5. Prepare a short team review

Choose a few scenes that examine the same question from different angles. Give the context first, then ask an observation question. Finish with a task for the next practice. Share only the material the team needs for that task. A short, clear review is easier to use in club life than a long collection of clips without explanation.

Do I need AI for video analysis?

No. You can record actions with Code or import a scouting file and connect it to video times. AI Scout provides another starting point through the match recording. The modules serve different purposes and can be selected individually.
